Maybe you could help me with where to start and what to look for.

So my first guess was the the power supply should be ok. Furthermore, all LEDs work as well as everything else on headphones. I managed to identify this voltage regulator:īut I can't seem to figure out where to measure the 6V and 3,3V. If it is a power issue, maybe something is wrong with the power supply. But the resistance changes while I rotate the knob so maybe this is not it. This is why I thought this might be relevant.

BOSS KATANA 50 MK2 FORUM INSTALL
If a short exists and you install new fuses, they will just blow again.I measured Pin7 and Pin13 to ground, Pin 8 and Pin15 to ground, as well as Pin 7/13 to 8/15 - no short.Ībout the power control pot - if it is stuck in "standby" position this would mute the speaker but there would be output on headphones. If you find fuses blown, it could be due to a shorted output IC, so check the supply pins of the IC to ground and to each other before applying power.
BOSS KATANA 50 MK2 FORUM MANUAL
Here is the service manual with all circuit diagrams: Īlso, unhook the speaker until you verify that there is no DC on the output. Or maybe I am barking up the wrong tree and maybe I should be looking somewhere else? Any help would be appreciated. Is there a reliable way to test this pot? Well, when I get to the powersoak knob test it doesn't pass it (some LEDs start blinking indicating an error). The resistance between pins 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 changes when I turn the pot though.Īnyway, I found the service manual which describes a so-called test mode, which allows to test the gain and volume knobs as well as the powersoak knob. It’s difficult to find fault with the Boss Katana 50 MkII. Two questions: 1) What exactly does the Variation button do with respect to 'amp type' There's scant reference to this in the manual and even when I'm in Tone Studio, I don't know what alternative amp it's referencing. It is supposed to be a 10K pot, but I measure 600 Ohms between pins 1 and 3 (it probably makes no sense to measure the pot while soldered to the circuit board). It's my first amp, period, so please bear with me. I have some suspicion about the Power Control knob (which selects 50W, 25W, 0.5W or standby). The amp coupled with the GA-FC switch and some expression pedals really are a game changer for a somewhat easy to handle rig and while I’m not abandoning effects pedals and tubes, it’s really a great option to have an all in one rig like this.Pin 15 - 0.46VI checked the phones jack (just in case, because it mutes the speaker when headphones are connected) but was ok. You do have to really resist the knob twiddling and make it your goal to a couple of decent sounds and options programmed and leave it at that. I’ve also spent some time actually getting to know Tone Studio and am finding it’s usefulness. I’m not into metal but this bad boy will CHUG. Let me tell you what, the combination of the larger cab and/or the Waza speaker makes this bad boy sing. Guitar center just so happened to have a lightly used Artist MK2 and having never played one, I drove up to check it out. Leaving the Blues Jr as my only amp.įast forward to now and I’m just tired of carrying an amp and pedal board back and forth to church every Sunday so I decided to get an MK2 to leave at home and leave the Jr at church along with a couple of pedals. In this little video, I unbox and get stuck into a Boss Katana 50 - amazing budget amp with incredible feature set Installing the Boss Tone Studio. I didn’t really use it much anyways but still, I didn’t like having something like that totally inaccessible.Īfter picking up a Blues Jr, I moved on from all of them.

BOSS KATANA 50 MK2 FORUM MAC
After upgrading my Mac to Big Sur, my access to the tone studio ended. So I have previously owned the Katana 50,100 and head all in the MK1.
